Some Things I Do Know

Anyone know of any cancer support group in or near Mount Airy?

I tried a national group. They tried to have all the answers. Told me about doctors I just “had” to use.

Somethings I do know,
cancer is common but not routine
No two cancers are exactly alike
No two people are exactly alike
There is a difference between discomfort and pain
Symptoms can be treated
Some cancers cannot be treated much less cured
Treatment for one individual with the same type cancer can kill the other
I like to discuss mine, some do not
I dont know what I think about my cancer
I dont know how to feel
Cancer can overshadow all good experiences
It can creep into your mind often when things are going good
You have to choose if the cancer doesn’t do it for you between non aggressive and aggressive approach
You have to choose if the cancer doesn’t do it for you between potential treatment and quality of life
Many of us never ask why me
We would be lost without faith..not to cure but to lean on
All friends are valuable not for what they can do for you but for what they are
Friends cannot realize their value
You really dont want to know about when you’re going to die
Staying upbeat is good medicine
Allowing time for depression is good medicine
Doctors dont know as much as we assume they do or should
You must take charge of your care..not doctors
God can heal all
I dont have to like or share to know I believe or to prove anything
Cancer is not the number one and wife are
Life goes on with or without you

Unless I find one suitable, I will research resources and organize a local group.
No need to drive out of town or area, we do enough running for doctor visits.

The Visitor

He lives near Pinnacle and has a vegetable stand in Winston. Used to sale insurance then worked as a finish carpenter with his son who was a contractor. He’s 85 years old and comes to the church in front of our house on W. Devon Dr. About 2 or 3 times a month.
He was visiting the church tonight but they didn’t have service so he just stopped in to find out if it was cancelled.
Stayed about 45 minutes. Talked about a wide range of things. Really was concerned about his wife just finding out she had cancer an was to begin chemotherapy and radiation. .he wanted to know how it may affect her. He was so worried for her. Read all he could find about treatments. We discussed quite a bit of natural cures or help. It all comes back to my belief that all cures or treatment comes from God and he has put all in the natural vegetation and minerals. I will be trying olive leaf extract. It will be Interesting. It is said will slow or shrink tumor growth. So next time or two I go for scans we will see. Mine are slow growth, thanks God, but have gone from 14 to twenty some. No cure or treatment is available. If a tumor starts giving pain or other problem God works thru the doc an they go in an cut off most of the blood flow to the tumor. This has worked for a while to shrink the tumor some.
Mentally and emotionally seems like friends and strangers give some kind of boost to me. Heather is burdened with worry and my lack of doing much due to fatigue. We have had some interesting miracles. This man and the timing was one for he and usm

For Today

So how did I get to here?  Sitting on the porch,  cool breeze,  contemplating the uncertainty about my future and at the same time, inside, I feel confident about my future.

About eight years ago this comming November I began having some small health issues.  While laying on my back going to sleep my gut would get a painful feeling. The majority of my life pain and sickness had been pretty much simple and ignored by me. Kidney stones and a worn out shoulder joint was about all I had taken a break from routine life to resolve. Never had I been to a doctor for flu, pneumonia or even strep as a child.  I know now I had the illnesses but always got over them just fine. This pain persisted to every night and after eating a heavy meal.  Boy I could put it away.  Eating was like a hobby and snacked from supper until bed. It became intolerable to the point I would have to sit up in bed and lean forward to ease the pain.  Later I had to get up and sit while leaned over tightly with my head to my knees.  This occurred to extreme when I would eat a quart or so of grain cereal.

After a few weeks of this I decided to seek medical care for relief.   Looked like age was starting to catch up with me and my eating habits.  My dad told me that one day all the hot sauce,  peppers, acid tomatoes and all the other crazy variety of foods was going to catch up with me.

Went to the doc. He kept poking around my stomach.  I told him over and over through test after test the pain was lower, just below the belly button.  After scans, blood work,  drinking volumes of dyes, numerous medicines, the diagnosis was diverticulitis. Makes sense, gotta know what the problem is to properly fix it.

More trips to the doc.  Many more scans, medicine changes during the next year or so.  Pain would still come but only got real bad every couple weeks or so. Just something to live with so no problem.

Starting at The Beginning. …    This is quite late to start such a blog but no time in the future is better than now.  Some brief comments before getting into much for now.                                                                                                                                                           I plan to comment about my life and issues dealing with carcinoid neuroendocrine tumors about the liver.  If anyone joins in, all comments are Welcome! There are many cancers.  There are many called the same thing but are actually very different as I have found.  One person with the rare cancer I have can and will have totally different outlook s, symptoms,  treatment options,  emotions, and many many other differences.

During this process discussing the cancer,                 emotions, outlooks, family, friends, daily                   lives, casual items of hobbies and life joys or             adventures one thing does amd will prevail,             spoken or not. It is absolute, nothing will be,             healing, doctors actions etc. except through               God.
